This is the rematch we all wanted. After months of speculations as when the match would be fixed, the entire boxing finally has a date for the Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 2. This is the sequel to their epic showdown in December of 2018 that ended in a controversial draw. Wilder vs Fury live stream will be aired on FOX PPV.
Much hasn’t changed since then; Deontay Wilder keeps knocking people out, the Gypsy King is always on the move and now we have a match to decide who will face Anthony Joshua as the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 2 has been fixed for the first quarter of 2020 and we can’t wait for another epic fight between two of the best in the biz. And hopefully, no draw this time around.
Why the Rematch
The Wilder vs Fury rematch has always been in the air. As early as a week after the Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury I, boxing promoter Frank Warren started talks of a rematch. The WBC basically agreed to the rematch to as long as all parties could reach a conclusion on terms of the match.
It took some time, Wilder had to knock out Luis Ortiz first and Fury (who has had it somewhat easier) triumphed over Otto Wallin and Tom Schwarz, but we have the rematch we all wanted.
Why the rematch? First, there is just no one else to fight. Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury match became mandatory after Wilder beat Ortiz. This paved the way for the rematch.
And when you take a look at the heavyweight division, you’d see this is match that just had to happen. There are names that you can call but it is either they have been dispatched by these two boxers or they just can’t really count as a worthy opponent; Alexander Povetkin, Jarrell Miller, Dillian Whyte, the aforementioned Luis Ortiz.
This is why Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 2 had to happen.
The date has been fixed and yes, it is the first quarter of 2020. February 22, 2020 is the date for Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 2. That makes for a fitting way to start the new decade in the world of boxing.
There is no official announcement on the time of the match and other details of the match but we can assume it would be around the same time for the first match.
Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 1 kicked off around 4am UK time and 8pm L.A time. That should likely be the time for the rematch too. But we will have more details once the match has been officially confirmed.
Just like the official kick off time, there has been no official statement on the venue but talks from prominent figures have placed the venue of the match to be MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada.
There is also the possibility of the match taking place in New York (a venue that would be easier for Tyson Fury fans) but that seems unlikely now.
For now, MGM Grand in Las Vegas seems to be the venue for the match. The venue has hosted the last 2 Tyson Fury fights while it was also the venue for Wilder vs Ortiz.
What TV Channel
Bob Arum has confirmed the date of the match to be 22nd of February 2020 and here is what we know regarding the TV channel broadcasting the match.
